Windows

Windows are everywhere.
Open-eyed glass
watches sidewalk strolls,
a mirror image
reflecting lovers
and dog walkers
and hands holding
other hands.
On dark streets,
eyes peek
through windows
and catch
on bright houses
and free spaces
and they hover
over silent life
only viewed from passing cars.
Eyes create windows
where I can almost see you
through the foggy walls
that hide your edges,
all the true pieces
of you.
Windows are everywhere
but I’m always looking in,
scratching at the icy glass.
I can see the warmth,
feel the love
but I am trapped
beyond the window.
