Tragic

You worship tragedy
like it’s your god,
omniscient
and
powerful
and
righteous.
Yet you claim
to want satiety,
something that gives
light
and
air
and
rest,
a feeling of finding
instead of searching,
a home instead of
a journey.
And here I am,
standing in the shadows
of a history
you beg to forget
while you watch it
linger on your fingertips.
