That Moment

That moment
you realize
you might
have been wrong
all along.
Like you start
to see the sky
for what it really is,
nothing but
chemistry and perception.

The song hummed through the tinny speakers and sent her hurtling back in time. In her mind, she saw his face and heard the lines about regret and longing and fate, and she realized, at that instant, that perhaps he had loved her all along. Those aching melodies had floated from his fingertips before she ever arrived and again after she left. He yearned for her the moment they parted, and she wondered if he had loved her first. The music said he did.
