Why I Watch

I watch
not to hear the music
but to see
your body move,
to see
the smile sprout
on your lips,
a flower
in the midst of snow.
I watch
to remember your fingers
and the pictures
on your skin.
I don’t hear
the screaming strings
or pulsing bass.

I just see your hands
clutching a guitar
instead of me.
