Green Light

You are green
and lovely
and an ever-present phantom
I see flashing
at the end of a distant dock,
beckoning me
to write until my fingers
leave bloody prints
on your doorstep.

I can feel the sea water
entering my veins
in splashes of sunlight
on forest floors
and I wonder
if this is how freedom should feel–
all reckless
and dashing
and warm,
the way it felt
to kiss you after
so few years gone.
Perhaps this is why
my hands grasp for
that sunshine moment
and attempt to propel myself
back or forward,
anything to be
in that shaft of sunlight
where all I could taste
was your mouth.
