Back to You

And I breathed
and you breathed
and silent walls
encased our heat
while stars danced
across blue ceilings
instead of skies.
Knees and elbows,
lips and tongues,
we were tangled,
ineffably entwined.
Sweet tea,
and sand in my shoes,
the rain fell
in short bursts
like broken sprinklers
in August,
heat glimmering
above the sidewalk.
Dirt and miles,
these roads
won’t turn back,
and these feet keep walking
as if they will find the bridge
leading back to you.
