Love and Obscurity

Beauty hides
but love is rare,
in its obscurity
of knowing
yet not knowing.

But I see it
coffee shop awnings
and in hot steamy cups.
It’s there in those moments
before the sky cracks open
with summer rain.
You can find it
in long weekends away
and cozy blankets
on snowy nights
or behind the next page
of your favorite book.

This beauty
can turn to love
if you let it.

It was in your eyes
when you first kissed me
after years apart
and in your hands
when they grabbed
and pulled me in.

That love hides
among the memories
I paint with my dreams,
this obscure
and shadowed
