I want to wander
like there’s room to move
instead of feeling the iron
chaining me in place.
I’m in boxes
miming my way out,
begging passers by
to open a window
and let me breathe
like my mind tends
to believe it should,
but they keep walking
on lead feet,
carrying the world
in the soles of their shoes
while I’m a balloon
tethered to a railing,
left by some child’s
carefree hand.

See me!

Do something!

But they step
and step away,
not even bothering
to look back at me
trapped in this cage,
clanging against the bars
with my helium limbs.
