In between,
floating like foam
on crashing waves.

In between,
one foot here,
one there.

In between,
like spirits
and terminal patients–
part in,
part out.

I am in between
and the path
keeps forking
and I know
I can’t find
my way back.

Back to where
the road was one-way
and my steps left imprints
in the earth,
marking my substantiality.

I’ve made too many turns
and I let go of your hand
somewhere in between.

I’m in between
love and leaving,
and you’re stuck between
yes and no.

In between.

We’ve always only been
in between.
