Not Enough Goodbyes

You held me
like it was the last time
because it was,
and I realized
there weren’t enough
goodbyes
to make it
last a lifetime.

I can still feel
the circle
of your arms,
and it catches me,
traps me
in webs of memory
at the most random times.
With the turn of a corner
or a riff of a guitar,
I find myself
inside those goodbye feelings,
surrounded by
swirling flashes
of your face,
lips turned down,
eyes staring with regret.
I feel your hands
let me go,
watch them wave.

I relive the end.
I relive the love.
I live it like it only just happened.
I relive it all,
over and over again.
