Secret Diary

I’m always in my head,
always trapped
in my own thoughts,
and you expected the truth,
for me to say
all those mixed up ideas,
to explain,
to attempt to understand,
and I miss that already.

I’ve lost something
I didn’t even know I needed,
so I mourn because I miss you
and how you make me feel

a little important,
a little necessary,
a little special

because I’ve never been
even a little special.

What we had was my release,
the place where I’d write
all my quiet and rage,
all my fear and pain,
but you’ve gone now,
and I’ve lost my friend too.
You were my secret diary
and now I’ve lost the key.

      • I was just talking to someone about the things I think I do well because I don’t think I do many things very well. I told him I was a good poet because my followers say I am. He argued that I shouldn’t need the validation of others to know I’m good. Alas, I do seem to need that validation. You don’t know how much it means to me that you read and enjoy my poems. Thank you for all that you’ve ever said. It means so much to me. 🙂

      • I know exactly what you mean. I feel the same way about my followers. There is something really inspiring about knowing the impact I have on others. It keeps me going. You’re very welcome, and I thank you too. 🙂
