Sometimes You Know

And sometimes
you know
you’re broken,
you’re fixed
but in time
instead
of health
or sanity.

You’re stuck,
frozen beneath
sheets of glass
thick with years,
with pain,
with empty
when really,
it’s all so full.
It’s all so real
but you still
feel false,
like we dress up
and dance around
the places
we want to be
but pretend
we don’t,
that we want
this
when all we need is
that.

It’s all so
messy and torn,
but here we are,
drained and slippery
and all but whole.

And you know it.
You know it’s this
even when you wish
it wasn’t.
